Asthma Program


The Asthma kidpak

The Asthma Kidpak enables a child to learn about the disease by using language and visual aids that are fun and easy to understand. It also tries to make the treatments more pleasant which would allow them to better comply with the doctors prescription and live a happier and healthier life.

All schools require permission by a physician and parent to allow a child or school personnel to administer asthma medication during school hours. The Asthma Kidpak provides all of the documents a school would need, as well as the products necessary to deliver the medication to the child whenever it is required.

Each Kidpak contains vital information as well as the necessary equipment to prevent and treat a child's asthma at home or at school.Asthma Program

  • An AC/DC aerosol compressor and nebulizer.
  • A peak flow meter which is easy to read and operate.
  • An instructional video in spanish and english which explains how to prevent an asthma episode.
  • An asthma action plan, designed by the doctor specifically for the child, which should prevent emergency room visits
  • Detailed instructions specified by the doctor, for school personnel to follow in the event that the child has an asthma episode while in school.
  • A colorful booklet divided into two parts. One section is written for the adult and describes the possible causes of asthma and ways to prevent an asthma episode. The other section is tailored towards children and uses games, visual effects and simple language to teach the child about their asthma in a fun and easily understood manner.

Prime Care Medical Supplies is one of the few companies in New York to obtain accreditation by the JCAHO in Clinical Respiratory Services as well as in Equipment Management.

We service more than 1,000 patients a year with ventilator support, liquid oxygen, positive airway pressure devices, apnea monitors, oxygen concentrators and other specialized equipment.

Under the direction of Peter Amico, a respiratory therapist and President of Prime Care Medical Supplies, the company has four full time respiratory therapists. They are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and are capable of making emergency home visits within one hour of your call.

Sleep Apnea

When a patient is diagnoses with having Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), a physician may prescribe a CPAP/Bi-level device for treatment. Being an expert in the field of sleep apnea products, Prime Care has the capability of providing any of the products currently manufactured as well as the clinical expertise that the patient requires.

Since CPAP/Bi-level devices are typically covered by all insurance companies and Medicare/Medicaid, all we need to obtain approval is a copy of the sleep study and the prescription. Our experienced customer service staff will do the rest.

  • Insurance authorization is obtained.
  • The patient is called, explained the process, and informed of any co-pay or deductible.
  • Billing for the products are submitted on the patient's behalf, eliminating the need for the patient to submit any paperwork.
  • Prime Care is a preferred provider for almost any of the major insurance carriers in the New York Metropolitan Area, therefore allowing us to collect directly without involving the patient at all.

Set Up and Instruction

  • One of our licensed Respiratory Therapist's then calls the patient, within 24 hours, to schedule a mutually acceptable time for delivery and setup of the prescribed items.
  • At the agreed upon date and time, the therapist arrives and delivers the appropriate equipment.
  • Detailed instructions on the safe use and maintenance of the equipment is reviewed with the patient.
  • A written assessment report can also be sent to the physician if desired.

Follow-up and Compliance Monitoring

  • Approximately 30 days after the setup, the therapist calls each patient to review their usage and any problems which they may be experiencing.
  • Since all of the CPAP/Bi-level units which we provide have the capability of storing compliance data, Prime Care can provide this information to the physician by faxing a report or via HIPAA approved internet access.
